Curly Hair Series: 50 Fight the Frizz Tips

These are my top 50 tips for deliciously smooth curls, without the frizz!

  1. Avoid touching/ stroking your hair as much as possible.
  2. Use shampoos and conditioners that don’t contain sulphates and silicones.
  3. Try a gel instead of a mousse to style your hair.
  4. Use a diffuser instead of a regular hair dryer attachment.
  5. Avoid drying your hair on a hot setting.
  6. Dry your hair using the ‘pixie method’.
  7. Always use a heat protector product.
  8. Wash your hair as little as you can. Once a week is perfect.
  9. To give your 2 day old hair a boost, spray with water and scrunch with gel.
  10. Try not to brush your hair dry.
  11. Use a wide toothed comb instead of a brush.
  12. Find a stylist that is a specialist in curly hair.
  13. The shorter your hair, the more curly it will be.
  14. Once a month, wash your hair with baby shampoo to get rid of build up.
  15. Use a cleansing conditioner instead of shampoo.
  16. Do a coconut oil treatment once a week.
  17. Do a deep condition once a week.
  18. Silk pillowcases will help to keep your hair in place overnight.
  19. Put your hair in a loose ponytail on the very top of your head overnight to keep your curls intact.
  20. Use coconut oil or olive oil on the ends to keep them from drying out.
  21. Twist wet curls around your finger to give them definition when they dry.
  22. Air drying your hair will result in less frizz.
  23. Look up the ‘Curly girl method‘.
  24. When wet, scrunch your hair upside down to encourage curls.
  25. Avoid using straighteners, they will damage your hair and cause frizz.
  26. When getting your hair dyed, ask for an Olaplex treatment to minimise damage.
  27. Avoid bleaching your hair.
  28. Look up the ‘scrunch out the crunch’ method.
  29. Concentrate conditioning the ends of your hair rather than the roots, this will help you go longer in between washes.
  30. Shampoo can dry your hair out – focus on the roots only.
  31. Get your hair cut often to keep on top of dry ends.
  32. Try dangling your hair with your fingers.
  33. If your hair gets really tangled, brush it with a Tangle Teaser while you have conditioner in it.
  34. Use a product for humidity in the summer.
  35. Don’t go out with wet hair when it’s cold outside.
  36. Use sulphate and silicone free toners and dyes.
  37.  Don’t dry your hair with regular towels, instead use an old t-shirt or a microfiber towel.
  38. Look up ‘hair plopping’.
  39. Don’t smooth products into your hair, scrunch them in instead.
  40. Look up the ‘LOC hair method’.
  41. Apply styling products to your hair when it’s soaking wet.
  42. Apply conditioner and rinse before shampooing.
  43. Don’t be afraid to leave a little conditioner in the roots of your hair at end end of your shower.
  44. Use a leave-in conditioner.
  45. Try to wear your natural hair colour instead of getting it dyed.
  46. Smooth down flyaways with a little gel mixed with water.
  47. Always leave conditioner in your hair for at least 5 minutes.
  48. Avoid tight ponytails.
  49. Use scrunchies or curly bands instead of regular hair ties.
  50. Learn to love your curls! Be kind to them over time and watch the frizz disappear!
