If there is one thing you can say about Helly Hansen, it’s that they make incredibly sturdy clothing. The shoes never seem to break, the zips on their tops never fail and the buttons never seem to come off. The quality is always so high, it means you can spend a bit extra, but they’ll last you twice as long as something else you might find on the high street.
This week I’ve been testing out the men’s Beckett Shoes by Helly Hansen, while I can honestly say I’m very happy with them, but read on for the full review in detail.
Give Us A Core Breakdown
These are a cosy waterproof ‘everyday’ type of shoe that you can both use for dry hiking adventures as well as trips to the office (providing they’re relaxed with casual clothing).
The top part is made from 100% premium leather, as well as some sections are made from polyester, which is from recycled materials.
The shoes have Max-Grip technology, as you can see from the base, providing really strong traction, so you don’t have to worry about slipping over in adverse weather conditions.
How Do They Feel?
They were actually really nice and cosy. They felt tight to the foot, in the way that only well-made shoes tend to have, as cheaper the shoe, more it feels loose or tucks in at odd points on the foot. These felt like they perfectly wrapped around my feet.
The base was also very soft when stepping, most likely thanks to the Helly Hansen Comfort Insole technologies.
I also like how thick the base is. The length my shoes last tends to strongly relate to how thick and high quality the base is, while when they’re wafer thin, they get worn out too quickly. Plus, as someone who is 5”11, I don’t mind that extra little platform to get me to 6 foot, cheers shoes!
Which Colours Do They Have?
Well I ordered them in a black colour, but currently the website is only listing the ‘honey wheat’ option, which is a warm yellow/orange colour, so they might currently be short on the black option.
Helly Hansen Branding
The HH logo is visible on the side of the shoes, but opting for the black, it’s certainly less visible than the ‘honey wheat’ option they have available on the website.
Having said that, they also have the brand logo on the top of the tongue (the part below the laces), as well as marked inside the shoes and also at the back of the outsole, under your heel.
What Do These Match Well With?
They’re described as built for ‘urban adventures’, which highlights their contrast to the other shoes they sell at Helly Hansen. The majority of their shoes are built for extreme weather, extreme conditions or for certain sports. But these are ideal for casual wear, whether you’re going to the office, out for some drinks or on a dog walk.
For that reason, you might want to pair them with jeans or cargo trousers. They don’t overly match chino’s, as that would require something a bit smarter, but you could certainly still wear them to the office in a smart/casual appearance.
While they might not naturally fit under the ‘hiking shoes’ category, if it hasn’t rained recently then these can be a great option, with a protective mudguard and grip technology to prevent any falls. For that reason, I feel they worked well with the Stratos Rain Pants by Helly Hansen.
They’re also an ideal shoe type for my bike rides, as the grip was useful and they matched with my sporting gear.
Where Can I Buy These From?
You can order the Helly Hansen Men’s Beckett Shoes from their website for £110. They do accept PayPal payments in 3 interest free payments, meaning it would drop it down to £36.67 per month. They also offer free delivery on these shoes.
If they don’t quite fit, they do offer a 30 day free return policy. For the record, the shoes I got were a 9.5 size, while they perfectly fit me.
