Wrangler 13MWZ Cowboy Cut Jeans and Western Shirt Review

When it comes to rugged, reliable style, Wrangler has been a go-to for decades and for good reason. With a history rooted in functionality and innovation dating back to 1947, this American classic clothing company has been worn by cowboys, rodeo riders and anyone looking for q1uality and timeless design.

I loved my time in Texas back a decade ago, what I would do to go back and watch another Rodeo and enjoy a BBQ brisket!

I recently had the chance to try out three iconic pieces from Wrangler, the 13MWZ Cowboy Cut Jeans in both Shadow Black and Dark Stone, as well as their classic Western Shirt in Buffalo Indigo. Here’s what I thought of each.

13MWZ Cowboy Cut Jeans – Shadow Black

13MWZ in Shadow BlackFirst up is the 13MWZ Cowboy Cut in Shadow Black, a modern take on the classic cowboy jeans. Designed with a mid-rise and straight fit, these jeans have a slightly wider boot opening to sit comfortably over boots, making them perfect for anyone who appreciates the practical style or might have a job that requires greater movement.

These jeans feature a regular fit through the thigh and knee, making them comfortable without feeling too loose or baggy. The fit is straight and classic, staying true to Wrangler’s heritage, while it’s what I naturally look for, I’ve never been a fan of overly tight fitting jeans, especially when I used to weight train.

Wrangler LogoWhat I really appreciated was how the denim felt durable yet broken-in, it was nice and cosy. Wrangler’s 13.oz non-stretch cotton fabric is designed to stand up to wear and tear, meaning these jeans will last through countless outings.

Wrangler’s attention to detail is what sets these jeans apart from others. With their iconic W stitching on the back pockets, 7 belt loops for extra security and flat rivets that won’t scratch surfaces, the craftsmanship speaks for itself.

The 13MWZ Cowboy Cut in Shadow Black is a perfect blend of functionality and style, allowing you to feel just as comfortable in the city as you would on a ranch, not that you’ll be on a ranch any time soon.

13MWZ Cowboy Cut Jeans – Dark Stone

13MWZ in Dark StoneThe dark stone version of the 13MWZ Cowboy Cut jeans brings a slightly different aesthetic to the table, with its classic deep navy hue always a popular option. These jeans have the same fit and functionality as the Shadow Black pair but with a more traditional denim look.

So why should you buy both? While the shadow black jeans offers a modern, sleek vibe, the dark stone version provides that rugged, worn-in denim look that’s perfect for everyday wear.

Plus I personally feel a navy blue colour tends to work well with more colours, so it can adapt to each outfit. It’s a timeless colour, adding to their versatility, whether you’re throwing them on with a t-shirt or dressing up smarter with a button-down.

The dark stone jeans exudes an effortlessly cool vibe, while the non-stretch 100% cotton denim ensures durability while maintaining the structured fit Wrangler is known for.

Western Shirt – Buffalo Indigo

Western Shirt in Buffalo IndigoThe final item I had the good fortune of trying was the Western Shirt in Buffalo Indigo, a long-sleeve check shirt that perfectly embodies Wrangler’s Western roots. I’ve always loved a chequered shirt, I have a few too many at home and I’m always happy to add to the collection!

The Buffalo Check pattern is classic and the indigo colour adds a rustic, yet contemporary feel to the design.

This shirt is cur for a regular fit, making it ideal for layering over a t-shirt or wearing on its own. Made from 100% cotton, it’s lightweight yet durable, so it’s comfortable to wear all day. One thing I really like about this shirt is how soft the fabric is, like a giant glove wrapped around you.

oversized shirtIt’s breathable and easy to move in, making it a go-to for casual days when you want to look good without sacrificing comfort, so a great option for the office or a Saturday night out.

Wrangler stays true to its heritage with practical design features implemented with this shirt. The twin chest pockets, button front and curved hem give this shirt an authentic American feel, while the button cuffs allow you to roll up the sleeves for a more laid back look, ideal when it gets a bit warmer.

It’s a shirt that blends comfort and style effortlessly and the 100% regenerative cotton means it’s also a more sustainable option, something I like to see. The shirt is made from cotton grown in a way that benefits soil health, biodiversity and water management. Not only do you get a great looking, comfortable shirt, but you also contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry.
