Our mums often do the work without credit, without the gratitude they deserve. Looking back, I realise now how much my mum did for us. Three kids, from divorced parents as she balanced being a single parent with working full time, it couldn’t have been easy! So if your mum equally deserves an amazing treat to show your gratitude, then check out some of the gift ideas below.
Helly Hansen Adore Puffy Parka
Available in 7 different colours, this stunning puffer parka jacket has High Loft synethetic insulation, which means it will keep you warm however chilly it gets, ideal if your mum is heading on holiday anytime soon to somewhere a bit colder.
We dream of a trip to Iceland and I can promise you this would be the first thing that would be making the list, in fact anything by Helly Hansen would be ideal, as they have an amazing range of cold-weather gear.
It’s a thigh length coat and traps the heat in really well, without looking overly big when worn. A water resistant outer fabric is critical in England, while the fleece lined pockets are perfect if you want to tuck your hands somewhere a bit warmer.
Honestly, this is such a special gift to give your mum, I can’t express how happy she will be, all wrapped up and warm.
Jana Reinhardt Hummingbird Necklace
What a beautiful gift! My mum has always loved being given jewellery, whether by us children, her friends or her partner.
Jana Reinhardt is a small independent UK company, run by Jana and her husband Ross, while they have a range of stunning pieces in sterling silver, gold or platinum.
There is a strong animal focus with their designs, such as this stunning hummingbird, therefore you can optimise your gift based on your mums favourite animal, plus you can also add an engraving. For an extra £1, they’ll wrap it up so you don’t have to worry about that part either.
Kew Gardens Carricante & Cremant Rose Gift Set
Don’t pop to your local supermarket and grab your mum any old bottle of wine, she deserves more than that, really treat her with this gorgeous double bottle gift set.
Inside you’ll find the Carricante white wine as well as the Cremant de Loire Rose Brut, which sounds a bit of me! They’re served in this beautiful Kew Laithwaites gifting box with a tin lid that you slide off.
This really had the wow effect when we opened it, so if you’re looking for something to dazzle her, then this is a great gift idea, plus they offer free delivery.
Scriveiner Classic Crimson Red Rollerball Pen
I remember my parents taking a caligraphy course to have more decorative handwriting, something which feels like a lost art in the digital world, but whenever they write in a card I can’t help but be impressed by the appearance of their writing. However, stylish handwriting is nothing without a high quality pen and Scriveiner make the best.
This crimson red rollerball pen is a British design, marked at the top and side with the famous Scriveiner logo, using a Schmidt liquid ink system from Germany.
The pen has a brass body and is perfectly weighted to allow you to write for hours in comfort. The rollerball pen is also delivered in a gorgeous little black box with a gold trim.
Nursem Hand Care Heroes Set
I actually buy my mum a hand cream almost every mother’s day, as I know she really appreciates a good one, while the cold weather plays havoc on her hands.
The Nursem hand cream is formulated for sensitive hands that can help protect against irritation, as well as regenerating the skin and building a protective barrier.
But it’s not just hand cream you’ll get in this gift set, it comes alongside a hand wash using naturally derived ingredients, as well as a skin fix overnight formula, the perfect hand-care set.
Kalme Day Defence
My go-to gifts for my mum are chocolates, flowers, a hand cream and a premium moisturiser, because that’s what she absolutely loves each and every time. We’re not talking about a basic moisturiser that she might fetch from Boots, we’re talking about a really high quality one that she can ask for around her birthday, Christmas or indeed Mother’s Day.
Kalme offer the Day Defence, containing 30 SPF, ideal once the sun pops back out (not long now), while it also has a soothing formula for red, irritated skin.
It’s interesting to read about the patented caper extract which can calm the visible skin reaction and reduce any redness. It’s also non-greasy and make-up friendly, ticking every box.
Baylis & Harding Royale Garden Candlelit Gift Set
Firstly, I love that it comes fully wrapped up and with a ‘to, from’ sticker on top, so you don’t have to do anything once you’ve bought it!
This is such a sweet gift if your mum is in need of a bit of an unwind, including bath bubbles, shower creme, hand & nail cream and a scented candle, the ultimate bath relaxation time. I actually love a bath, so the hardest part will be giving this as a gift.
The set is completely vegan friendly, while the scent is lavender and rosehip, ideal for creating that at-home pamper session.
Faith In Nature
Honestly, for the past 10 years, every single birthday my big sister asks for Faith in Nature, she’s seriously one of their biggest fans, always requesting it from a Holland & Barrett order. Well if your mum is similar and has ordered them before, you can even go for the refill tubs which are much cheaper per ml.
Whether it’s an amazing smelling lavender & geranium hand wash, body wash or hand & body lotion, she will love them all. Or you could order all three and gift them as a set.
They use 100% recycled & recyclable bottles, while the products are dermatologically tested and contain no parabens or SLS.
Aqua de Madre Gut Friendly Gifts
I started taking kefir last year when I learned about the importance of having fermented goods on the gut microbiome. However, my kefir is milk based and needs to be kept in the fridge, not ideal when I travel away for work, therefore a sparkling water based kefir in a can is an amazing concept for me.
They also serve the water kefir in a number of flavours, being pink grapefruit & lime, lemon & ginger, blood orange and raspberry & passionfruit.
They also have a Remedio Infusion, which is crushed whole fruits blended and then fermented using their water kefir grains. You can mix it into hot water to make a tea, but my preference would be to mix it into a yogurt, fruit and nut mix, like I eat for breakfast. You’ve got 3 flavours to pick from, being blackcurrant & ginger, turmeric & ginger or lemon & ginger.
The Kew Gardens Salad Book
Over the past 12 months I have completely come around to salads, eating them every evening, however one of the biggest struggles is mixing them up, thinking of new twists to keep them interesting, so I often chat to my sisters and my mum, as they do the same. You see so many cookbooks for dinners or baking, but not so many for salads, therefore this instantly jumped out to me.
The Kew Gardens salad book contains 65 different recipes, encouraging you to explore and broaden your horizon of plant foods. They always say you’re meant to get 30 different types of plants in a week, well this will certainly help you along the way!
Most importantly, the salad recipes are matched with images of the finished meal, there is nothing worse than a recipe book that doesn’t show imagery of what it should look like, as that’s the part that entices you.
Rhubarb & Ginger Edinburgh Gin Liqueur
If you’ve never had a rhubarb and ginger liqueur before, prepare to be mindblown, me and Raquel first tried this a couple of years ago and fell in love! You have the sweetness of the rhubarb contrast with the warming kick of ginger.
Ideal with tonic or lemonade, if you visit your mum for the day, you might even be able to get a couple of glasses for yourself, providing you make up the drinks while there. At 20%, this is beautiful without leaving you absolutely floored.
They have some other flavours if you prefer, such as black forest gateau, which one day I’ll have to tick off as that sounds unbelievably nice.
A.Vogel Relax Spray
We often don’t get enough zinc in our diet, however this can easily be put in your bag or kept at work and you simply spray it into your mouth up to 4 times per day to get a dose of nutrients.
The zinc works to protect your cognitive function, while this spray also contains fresh passiflora and lemon balm, which are both organically grown. This isn’t just a healthy spray, it can also help to calm and relax you at times when it all starts to build-up.
There is also a nice vanilla and star anise flavouring, while it’s sugar free so you don’t have to worry about counting the calories.
Opies Pitted Black Olives
Myself, my friends and my family have all become hooked to making salads, maybe that’s just something that happens in your thirties, but it’s hard not to get bored of them when using the exact same ingredients. If your mum loves a salad then it could be worth exploring some potential ingredients for her, whether that’s a gouda cheese, a high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil, or black olives, such as these available from Bennett Opie.
Or, if your mum is more of a cocktail lady, then you could make her a Bloody Mary or a Martini and add a few of these olives on a pick.
Just remember, you’re the official bartender on Mother’s Day, so be prepared to make them all day if you try this.
